Anzures and around

Where you are

The neighborhood

Verónica Anzures is a residential neighborhood, not a tourist one, and that is exactly its charm. It has trees, wide medians and people who live here all year, so you can walk around calmly and eat well without paying tourist prices.

  • You are right against Polanco to the north. What you see in magazines, the Masaryk shops and the big restaurants, is a few minutes from here.
  • To the west is Nuevo Polanco, with the Soumaya and the Jumex, two good museums and one of them free.
  • To the south, across Reforma, is Bosque de Chapultepec, the city's big park.
  • On the same avenue there is a shopping center with restaurants and cafes, which is what solves the first night when you no longer want to go far.

The map in this guide has the places pinned. Open it and tap any of them to get directions.

Getting around

In this city almost everyone gets around by app. It is cheap for what it is, and with the traffic here it is almost always worth it.

  • Uber and DiDi work well and are what locals use. Order the ride from the building entrance, not from the avenue.
  • The metro is fast and clean, but Anzures has no station of its own. The nearest is about twenty minutes on foot, so for the metro it is usually easier to take a car to the station.
  • To reach the Centro Histórico or Roma without driving, the Metrobús along Reforma is the best option.
  • You do not flag taxis on the street here. It is not the custom and you do not need to.

Factor traffic into your plans. From seven to ten in the morning and five to nine at night, a twenty minute trip can turn into forty five.

Money, signal and emergencies

Three practical things people almost always ask about on day one.

  • Cards work almost everywhere. Carry some cash for the taco stand, the market and tips, where it is appreciated.
  • ATMs inside a bank branch or a mall are the safe ones. Avoid the standalone machines on the street.
  • Phone signal is good all over this area. If you are coming from abroad, a local SIM is cheap and sold at the airport and in any convenience store.
  • Emergencies: 911 for everything, police, ambulance and fire. It is one number nationwide.
  • For something medical that is not serious, the pharmacy on the corner has a walk in doctor. For something serious, the Hospital Español is pinned on the map.
