The apartment

Comfort and rules

Windows, the view and noise

The living room and the bedroom open onto a window wall with a wide view of the city, and that window is half the apartment.

  • Mexico City sits at 2,240 meters. It is almost never genuinely hot, so opening the windows is usually enough, and nights are cool all year.
  • The sun here is strong even when the air is cool. If the afternoon hits the room head on, drop the blinds and the living room stays mild.
  • We are near the Circuito Interior, so there is a city hum in the background. With the window closed you barely hear it, and it drops a lot at night.

Earthquakes: what to do

Mexico City has earthquakes, and although it is almost always a mild movement, it is worth knowing what to do before one happens rather than during.

  • If the seismic alarm sounds, do not run for the stairs. New buildings like this one are built to move.
  • Move away from the window walls and stand next to a load bearing wall or in an interior doorway.
  • When it stops, check there is no smell of gas before switching anything on, and use the stairs to go down, never the elevator.
  • Write to us afterwards. Even if nothing happened we want to know you are fine.

House rules

Few, and no fine print.

  • Maximum 2 guests. That is not a rule about behavior, it is what fits comfortably here.
  • No smoking inside the apartment, and not in the common areas either.
  • No parties or events. The building has neighbors who live here year round, not only guests passing through.
  • After ten at night, bring the volume down. The walls are good but they are not magic.
  • Having a visitor over is fine. Just do not let it turn into a gathering.

If something breaks, tell us. Things break and it is not a problem. The only thing that complicates it is finding out after you have left.
